Indy Gay Market uplifts LGBTQ+ artists, makers, and small business owners by providing equitable, artist-led vendor markets in Indianapolis. Through inclusive events, strategic partnerships, and year-round advocacy, we create economic opportunities, foster community engagement, and celebrate queer identity. By uniting art, commerce, and activism, we empower queer entrepreneurs and strengthen our community.
-
Indy Gay Market not only provides economic opportunities for the 2SLGBTQ+ community but also creates a space for them to thrive. Our events foster environments where diverse forms of artistic expression are celebrated, and where community members can connect, support one another, and feel empowered.
Through intentional vendor selection, strategic collaborations, and ongoing advocacy, we remain focused on creating spaces that celebrate queer identity, provide critical resources, and promote economic empowerment.

Big Gay Market, in Indianapolis, started as an event series led by LGBTQ+ artist Meghan Curran. The inaugural event on July 31, 2021, featured 57 queer identifying vendors offering art, crafts, and handmade goods. The success of this event led to additional markets in 2021 and 2022, establishing the need for a space where queer artists can come together to share their work with the community.
In August 2022, Curran handed over the curation of the event to LGBTQ+ artist Hannah Hadley. After becoming the lead organizer, she rebranded the market as “Indy Gay Market” to reflect its expanding mission, alignment with Indy Pride, and to differentiate from other Big Gay Markets appearing in other states across the USA. Through community networking, Hadley has formed an 11-member team consisting of LGBTQ+ artists and organizers who assist with event planning, branding, and outreach. This solidified identity and growth led to an influx of vendor applications, with nearly 200 applications per event, underscoring the need for queer-focused markets.
In 2023, Indy Gay Market formalized a partnership with Indy Pride, gaining nonprofit support via fiscal sponsorship and essential resources like financial management, marketing, and event equipment. Since 2023, Indy Gay Market has hosted six events annually at various venues, partnering with local businesses to create accessible, community-focused spaces. Venues such as The AMP at 16 Tech and Monument Circle have hosted some of Indy Gay Market's largest gatherings.
-
Community engagement has remained central to our mission, with efforts led by Hadley and Community Partner Coordinator Winnie Maxwell. The market regularly invites advocacy groups, nonprofits, and grassroots initiatives to participate in events, offering educational resources, social services, and support to attendees. Event attendance has grown from 100-200 to 600+ per event, with the 2023 Valentine’s Day Market seeing over 1,200 attendees, it is clear that the Indianapolis community cares deeply about our events.

Why we matter…
Markets have a historical significance as meeting places for communities. Indianapolis has a desperate need for more all-ages queer spaces and events.
Our Team
-
Hannah Hadley (she/her) Lead Organizer
I got my BA in Art History and BFA in Textiles from IU in 2017. I was a vendor at the first Big Gay Market in Indy in 2021 and it was one of the first places where I was able to be fully out as a bisexual queer person. I took over organizing it in 2022 because the market meant so much to me. I try my best to lead this glorious charge for regular queer focused events in Indianapolis. I love curating our amazing pool of artists and working with our team to make sure every market is filled with intention, opportunity, and love for this community.
-
Jay Drew (she/her) Vendor and Event Coordinator
I am a vendor and event coordinator who has been with IGM for over a year now working to create exciting and accessible events for the queer art community. I am also a frequent IGM vendor as the resident plushie dealer through my business Criminally Cute Crochet making and selling crochet plushies and home goods. My only goals in life are to live authentically, love often, be happy, and bring joy and acceptance to any space I am in!
-
Katie Dorman (she/her) Vendor and Event Coordinator
I enjoy seeing artists of all ages get the opportunity to share their work as well as making steps in becoming confident and successful in what they are doing through participating in markets. I'm one of the newer members of the Indy Gay Market team and I am thoroughly enjoying helping out this amazing community. I've participated and helped facilitate markets in the past and I am excited to continue with the IGM!

Winnie Louise (she/her) Community Partner Coordinator
I’ve been involved since the first Big Gay Market in July of 2021. Originally, as a DJ and now as a board member and community liaison. The first Big Gay Market was one of the first queer spaces I entered after transitioning. The market thus holds a dear place in my heart as one of the first places I could be myself without fear. As community liaison I ensure support organizations have space to share information and resources at the market.
-
Anna Ward (she/her) Volunteer Coordinator
I’ve been a big fan of the gay market for years and on the board for over a year. I recently stepped into the volunteer coordination role. The markets couldn’t (and shouldn’t) happen without the help of generous community members. I love watching each market come to fruition; my home is full of art from our wonderful vendors! When I’m not Indy Gay Market-ing or at my day job as a social worker, I love to hike and birdwatch.

Carly Valentine (she/they) Graphic & Merch Designer
I love being a part of the Indianapolis Queer Community and value all the friendships I have made along the way! I’m passionate about using the illustration and design skills Ive learned in school/practice to bring attention and excitement for events that aim to bring this community together! In my free time I also like riding my bike, spending time with my Kitty, working out, and going out to eat around Indy!
Do you want to donate to this market?
This event seeks to create a platform for local LGBTQ2S+ entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, while also bringing the community together for a fun-filled day of shopping, mingling, and entertainment.
As you may know, LGBTQ+ businesses and entrepreneurs often face discrimination and misrepresentation in the mainstream market. Our pop-up market seeks to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for these individuals to showcase their talents, connect with other members of the community, and reach a wider audience. Indy Gay Market events are different from other markets because we are a collective of entirely queer identifying individuals vending. It’s a powerful and healing experience to see so many people from our community gather together to put on such a special event. This summer we were able to give 190 vendors an opportunity to sell their work in a safe, accessible, and inclusive space.
To make this event a success, we need your help. Your donation will go towards covering the costs of venue rental, security, entertainment costs, and other expenses associated with putting together a successful event. It will also contribute to providing financial support and resources to LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs who need it the most.
You can donate any amount that you are comfortable with. Every little bit helps, and we appreciate any donation that you can offer. Your name will also be listed as a donor on our website and social media pages, and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. With your help, we can make the Big Gay Market a success, and provide a valuable opportunity for local LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs to thrive.
